Making a great cup of Kratom Tea.

Almost everyone’s made a cup or pot of tea, sounds easy, right? Well with Kratom Tea, doesn’t exactly involve tea bags… yet.

A group of enthusiastic kratom connoisseurs scoured the web and collected a few of the most popular ways of brewing kratom tea, then tested out the methods. Below are the results that they sent us.

Method #1 Making Kratom Tea

  • put 5-10 grams of powdered leaves in a small amount of hot water and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes.
  • add black or herbal tea and sugar or honey

Results from our connoisseurs:

  • Didn’t know how much water to use, but used 1 cup. The powder just floated at the top, some stirring eventually mixed in, but sank to the bottom.
  • Found it was very weak, don’t think I got anything from it.
  • I added green tea, didn’t really get any effect from the kratom. Was horrible to drink cause I’d get a mouthful of soggy powder towards the bottom.

Method #2 The Kratom Tea Recipe

1 gram: Very mild effect
3 grams: Moderate effect
5 grams: Potent effect for most users
10 grams: Strong effect
15+ grams: Very strong effect – best for experienced users

Instructions For Brewing Your Tea

  1. Need a pot or kettle, any basic strainer (even cheesecloth will work), kratom powder, water, and a stove.
  2. Bring about a cup and a half of water in a standard kettle or any deep pot to a soft boil.
  3. Add pre-measured kratom powder directly into boiling water.
  4. Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Check the color of your brew. When it turns yellow or deep orange, remove the pot/kettle from the heat.
  6. Hold a strainer over your mug and pour the liquid directly in.
  7. Discard the matter collected by the strainer (or save for a future, weaker brew).

Results from our connoisseurs:

  • Only had a mesh noodle strainer, didn’t work well, powder went through. Tried again with a coffee filter, but it plugged up. Had to squeeze it out once it was cool enough.
  • After 15 minutes there was only about a ½ cup of tea. Most the kratom was stuck to the side of the pot. Hindsight should have watched over it.
  • Couldn’t tell color wile it was brewing
  • Was extremely bitter, indescribable taste. Don’t think honey helped much.
  • Didn’t notice much effect from the kratom

Method #3 Uncle R’s Kratom Tea Recipe

Using a small saucepan over medium heat, bring just a touch over 1 cup (a full coffee cup) of water and one dose (10g or less) of kratom to a very light boil – just over a simmer. Boil for 15 minutes.

Tilt the pot 45 degrees for about 15 seconds – this will gather the material in a clump which makes pouring easier. Then pour it slowly through either a metal coffee filter (for powder) or a wire strainer (for ground leaf), using a spoon to block the solids from the drippings, and then also to squeeze most of the liquids from the kratom.

Results from our connoisseurs:

  • Reusable metal mesh coffee filter was a great idea. Worked well
  • Made about a ½ cut of kratom tea which was pretty nasty
  • Was quite mild for kratom effects.

New method for making Kratom tea by our fabulous kratom connoisseurs.

After cross discussion of the results, collectively the connoisseurs created a new method for making Kratom Tea.

  1. You need a medium size pot, (8” x 2”), wooden spoon, reusable metal mesh coffee strainer, kratom powder, water and a heat source.
  2. Using the cup that you are going to drink your tea, add 3 ½ cupfulls of water to the pot.
  3. Bring pot to a boil, once boiling reduce heat to a simmer.
  4. Use 2x the normal amount of kratom ie you normally take 5g, add 10g.
  5. Let simmer for about 20-30 minutes, occasionally stirring, scraping the kratom off the sides.
  6. Once boiled down to about 1 cup, remove from heat and allow to sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Place the strainer over the cup and slowly pour the tea into the cup.
  8. Add honey to lighten the flavor.

Additional thoughts and experiments.

  • Add lemon juice to the water prior to adding the kratom. Does make a bit more bitter but seems more potent.
  • Add turmeric to the tea. Also added herbal tea to the mix to make it a more tolerable flavor.
  • Simmer down to about ½ cup, can put into expresso or shot glasses, quick kratom shots.
  • Stevia works well for a sweetener.
